Why foster?

“I’m going to be real for a second. I LOVE fostering dogs, it is one of the most satisfying and rewarding adventures I have found in my life.

“I don’t know how you do it”
“I would want to keep them all”

Here’s the thing; I DO want to keep them all. I want to keep all of them so that they would never have to hurt again. I want my heart not to break each time one gets adopted. I want my tears to be recognized as a good thing because I got to love them first. I got to be the first safe place they knew.

The forever home, and the forever love, is worth more than my tears.  My heart hurts today so that theirs will never hurt again.

At the end of the day, I will ALWAYS say yes to another dog. I will ALWAYS say yes to saving a life. I will shed more tears than I would like to admit. I will continue to advocate for those that don’t have a voice.

Each of us foster for different reasons.  In the coming months we are interviewing some of our fosters and finding out why they foster.

The easy answer is that it saves lives.  Shelters can only hold so many animals.  We all know the tragic result when they are at capacity.  Rescues, such as One Love, “rescue” animals from overcrowded shelters and move them into foster homes.  We also work with individuals that can no longer care for their pets.   As a foster, you help an animal relax and feel safe again.

What if you can’t afford to care for a pet?  Well, if you are a foster with One Love, all expenses are paid.  That's right, vetting, food, treat and toy costs are provided while you foster with us.

Afraid you can’t give them up to be adopted after caring?  Unfortunately, there is always another to save.  One of our fosters says that she saves three lives.  The animal that was just adopted, the one that she can now save from a shelter, and the one that needs a spot in the shelter.
